Aug 22, 2023The Galaxy Watch 5 is Finally Getting Wear OS 4
It looks like the Galaxy Watch 4 will need to wait a bit longer.
The next version of Wear OS, Wear OS 4, is officially out at long last. After Wear OS 3 represented a massive leap for Android-powered smartwatches, the stakes are high for Wear OS 4. The new operating system comes pre-installed in the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series, and Samsung promised to roll it out to older smartwatches soon. Like clockwork (no pun intended), the new operating system is now rolling out for the Galaxy Watch 5 series.
Users of both the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro have reported that they are now officially getting an over-the-air update to One UI 5 Watch, based on Wear OS 4. The update itself is based on Android 13 and comes with a slew of improvements, including all the software improvements that have landed with the Galaxy Watch 6 series.
Samsung promised to roll out the update to both the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series and the Galaxy Watch 4 series. So far, however, we've only seen it launch on last year's smartwatches. If you have an older Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, the update should land in your watch within the next few weeks as well, given how both generations of smartwatches are basically identical spec-wise and the beta programs were also run concurrently.
The full changelog can be found below if you want to give it a read:

If you want to give Wear OS 4 a spin on your Galaxy Watch 5, keep an eye out for an OTA update coming soon to your device. Galaxy Watch 4 owners will need to wait a bit longer, however.
